My Favorites (Sketch)

Rough sketch of something I've wanted to do for a while now...someday I'll get around to inking/coloring this. Am I rusty? Because I FEEL rusty. Damn my lack of art time this month. Anyways. Socks with some of my TOP favorite characters of ALL time. I tried to make them all "realistically sized" to each other...literally used a whole sheet of paper for this one and still didn't have enough room. Ah well.

Let me first say that while I've been a fan of many characters through the years only a handful are worthy of my "addiction" list. By that I mean my obsession for them lasts for weeks, sometimes months (or more) on end and even when it eventually fizzles out it never fails to come back at full force somewhere down the road. These are characters that I've felt so much emotion for it's as if they're part of my life...and you can call that crazy, I don't care. Their stories and personal struggles have made me laugh and cry and they never fail to inspire me creatively (art, fan fictions, music videos, you name it)!

I'm going to try and keep this short because I'm tired and don't wanna turn this into a novel.

Let's start with Scar! I'm sure most of my watchers are well aware of how much I love Scar. The Lion King is without question my favorite movie of all time. I've been a fan since it first came out the summer of 1994...btw, it turns 20 this year...can you friggin' believe it!? DAMN I feel old. As a kid (I was only nine when TLK came out) I never thought too much into it but when I got older I began to see Scar in a whole new light. He was a very intriguing character and there was clearly more to him than meets the eye. I know everyone has their opinion on this but I personally feel no one is "born evil" and there had to be a reason for the way he was. Jealousy, absolutely...but for him to go to such extremes I feel it was more than that. There was obvious bad blood between Mufasa and Scar and I for one would love to know the whole story (of course I know we'll never get it...but hey, that's what fan fictions/fan arts are for)!

Willie Loomis from Dark Shadows (I apologize that I can't draw humans)! As some of you may or may not know I've been a fan of the original DS tv series for many years. My mom grew up watching it during it's original run in the 60s/70s and when it was rerun on the SciFi Channel in the 90s she introduced it to me. I instantly took a liking to Willie, he was just the kind of character I loved. He starts out as a greedy ruffian and goes through such a drastic personality change after he becomes the slave of a vampire, finding remorse and humanity. I always felt so bad for him and have long considered him the "unsung hero" of the show, quite literally in some cases. I have trouble even watching some scenes because it emotionally wrecks me. Willie is the odd one out in this picture because not only is he the only human, he's also the only non-animated character! Fun fact: Most of my favorite characters are animals and usually cartoon animals at that, but this is an exception.

Meowth (specifically Team Rocket's Meowth) I posted something very long about this recently so I'm not gonna repeat myself, but Meowth was another of my huge obsessions. For at least a year practically every minute of my spare time was spent doing something involving Meowth and Team Rocket (art, stories, roleplaying or simply watching my favorite episodes of Pokemon) I've always had a soft spot for the "bad guys" and Meowth's character and story swept me right up. I adored how the TR trio weren't "all bad" and truly cared for one another (hell they were even heroes who were willing to sacrifice themselves for the greater good in the second movie) They were always far more interesting than the "twerps" and truly the best episodes in that show were those that focused on them. I loved Meowth from the get go, but Go West Young Meowth only made me love him more.

Iago from Aladdin (Return of Jafar pushed this obsession into full swing) Although Aladdin was never one of my top favorite Disney movies , Iago has always been a favorite character of mine. I know it sounds strange but I loved his voice (come on, how can you NOT love friggin' Gilbert Gottfried!?) and I absolutely loved his transition from "bad" to "good" (without ruining his personality) in RoJ. I know not everyone likes that movie (the animation quality was pretty awful compared to the original movie) but meh, I loved it. When Aladdin the series came out I got pretty obsessed with it, namely any episodes that focused on Iago. I thought it was great that he stayed such an anti-hero but still cared for his "good guy" friends. I was just a kid when the full force of this obsession was at it's peak but I remember it well.
